This started as a blog about training together as a family, in part to inspire other women & families to get involved. As female participation in jiu jitsu has increased, as we have grown as athletes and as we learned that families training together aren’t such an anomaly, the blog has evolved. Jen gets personal with posts on ambition, challenges & achievements in BJJ, CrossFit & with nutrition, while Tom's posts are more educational, informative and analytical in regards to training. On occasion you may hear from the kids.

My Early Christmas Gift

by Jen

Most girls will ask for a Coach bag or jewelry. I wanted a pull up bar. Thanks Tom! Now I don't have any excuses to keep me from practicing my pull ups.

Also on the list is a new gi, some fight shorts and a sponsor to help Logan and me get to the Pan Ams. You will never get it if you don't ask! (I will take the Coach bag too.)

  1. Not gonna lie, I'd take the pull-up bar and the bag.

  2. Thanks everyone! I just love it. @Dag, I'm still working on that bag.

  3. You ROCK! I thought I was the only 0ver-40 guy rolling with his young son. My 11 year old and I have been involved in BJJ for a year and a half now and it's been humbling and I love him more each day because of it. Your blog has a new total fan. I'll send a picture of my pull up bar made out of two sections of locust tree.
Love the "Family Mat-Ters" title as well.
    Bravo!

  4. Thanks Chris. It is true, having an activity that you do together definately pulls you closer. Looking forward to the picture of the pull up bar.
