This started as a blog about training together as a family, in part to inspire other women & families to get involved. As female participation in jiu jitsu has increased, as we have grown as athletes and as we learned that families training together aren’t such an anomaly, the blog has evolved. Jen gets personal with posts on ambition, challenges & achievements in BJJ, CrossFit & with nutrition, while Tom's posts are more educational, informative and analytical in regards to training. On occasion you may hear from the kids.

Moving Forward

by Jen

Instead of wallowing in self pity about missing the Open I am moving forward by planning for 2012. I desperately want to go to the Pan Ams with Logan but I am not sure our budget will be accommodating. I continue to pray, pray, pray and research options and resources to help get us there.

The date for the 2nd Annual Heraean Games, an all female CrossFit competition, has been set for January 28th. The standards for the 40+ Athena division are tougher than I expected. To be competitive I will need to add 50 lbs to my deadlift and 25 lbs to my clean and jerk and master pull-ups and double unders. These are some challenging, but clear cut goals to work towards over the next three months.

Juan showed me a couple of tips that have helped with the deadlift. The biggest hurdle is my fear of getting hurt.

These are some great videos about double unders. It's pretty frustrating to have not conquered them yet so I'm hoping these tips will help.
