This started as a blog about training together as a family, in part to inspire other women & families to get involved. As female participation in jiu jitsu has increased, as we have grown as athletes and as we learned that families training together aren’t such an anomaly, the blog has evolved. Jen gets personal with posts on ambition, challenges & achievements in BJJ, CrossFit & with nutrition, while Tom's posts are more educational, informative and analytical in regards to training. On occasion you may hear from the kids.

Stepping up

Our BJJ coach Marcelo is out of town competing in a tournament and asked Lior Klepach to teach our class tonight. Lior is a blue belt with a judo background and he spent some time tonight focusing on take downs and sweeps. Lior always steps up and offers to teach a class when Marcelo is away. He is always helpful and a good example of a dedicated team mate. He was one of the first guys to welcome us when we tried a class for the first time. The point I am trying to make is that a good attitude is an essential attribute to succeeding in jiu jitsu. It can be intimidating walking into a BJJ school for the first time but it is guys like Lior that make you realize that training in jiu jitsu is being part of a family.
